CLI is a Prison Ministry with Two Key Functions
1. Distribute Christian Books and Bibles to US Prisons
The mission of CLI is to advance Christ’s light in prisons. Since its founding in 1996, CLI has helped thousands of incarcerated men and women find new hope in the healing powers of Christ. We do this by collecting and distributing used Christian books and Bibles to more than 1,000 prisons in all 50 states.
2. Disciple Prison Inmates
Since we stamp every book with our address, CLI receives thousands of letters and enrollments in the CLI Bible Studies. Our three Bible studies are designed to lead inmates to Christ and enrich their prayer life and Christian walk. Several CLI volunteers are taking the CLI Bible studies to countries outside the US. The CLI Bible studies are published in English and Spanish.
Our success depends on the prayers and the partnership and generosity of individual donors as well as local churches, foundations and Christian publishers. To learn more about how you or your church can help CLI to reach more prisoners for Christ, Click Here.

CLI Partners With Other Ministries
CLI’s unique mission allows us to partner with many other (and much larger) prison ministries. Most send us their printed materials that are surplus or no longer needed while others actively collect Bibles for us. We praise God for all our partnerships and continue to reach out to others. They are:
Billy Graham Evangelistic Assn
Christian Resources International
Crossroads Prison Ministries
Lifeway Christian Stores
Thomas Nelson Zondervan Publishers
Through the Bible

What We Do
Christian Library International serves adult and youth prison inmates by providing Christian books, Bibles, CDs, and DVDs to prisons, jails, and youth detention centers. The new and used materials are shipped directly to chaplains who distribute them by means of a lending library, a book cart or by personally giving them to the inmates. God matches up just the right book, with just the right inmate at just the right time!
How Does God Use CLI?
At our prison ministry, we stamp our books with our address, we receive thousands of letters from inmates. CLI volunteers answer each letter personally enclosing a gospel tract and application for a free Bible correspondence study. Our volunteers usually add encouraging remarks and relevant Bible scripture.
Inmates accepted for the CLI Bible study receive their lessons in 16 installments. When they finish one lesson, CLI volunteers review and send back the completed lesson along with the next one. The lessons are designed to help inmates grow in their faith as well as to be a help to those around them.
Why Prison Ministry?
We serve in prison ministry because;
More than two million adults are in jail or prison
The rate of increase for prison costs was six times greater than for higher education spending
Prison inmates have time to read. Many are sincerely seeking to change their lifestyle.
God Wants the Strongholds in Prison to be Broken Because:
God created men and women in His image. Genesis 1:27
“I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.” Luke 5:32
He saved the thief on the cross. Luke 23:43
The sinful woman forgiven: “But he who has been forgiven little loves little.” Luke 7:47
Jesus said: “The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to release the oppressed.” Luke 4:18
We share the good news by providing books, Bibles, and other Christian materials.
